For over 30 years, Serenity House Counseling has successfully expanded substance abuse services throughout the Chicagoland area to meet the ever-increasing demand for treatment. Serenity House has grown from a four-bed cottage in 1985 to our current capacity of 107 beds in our men and women’s residential programs, and over 250 individuals in our outpatient programs. Serenity House Counseling addresses the challenge of substance abuse disorders by providing a 90-day residential treatment program. Our residential treatment program offers more than just behavioral and mental health treatment: Serenity House provides stability, shelter, and basic needs. Treatment consists of a broad range of interventions: individual counseling, group counseling, family support including family nights, and sober fun activities
These critical services provide individuals with a safe and supportive environment in which to recover from addiction, to learn the life skills necessary to return to their communities and families, and to prevent future addiction among youth
Serenity House Counseling also reaches out to teens at risk for substance abuse within our community. Through our Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program, our counselors provide a holistic approach to treatment focused on integrating teens into the community while improving quality of family life. Our evidence-based approach to teen drug use addresses the underlying risk factors, resulting in longer-lasting outcomes.
Our approach is based on meeting adolescents where they are; with respect and a caring attitude. Although teens may exhibit risk behavior, they are still young, and the plasticity of their brains and responses to their environment demand more engagement than just therapy and group sessions. Healthy endeavors like gardening, yoga, sports, and other activities are critical in ensuring that youth stay engaged and recognize their potential for happiness and success.
Serenity House Counseling also has seven recovery homes, which provide a sober-living environment for persons in early recovery or those who have recently completed substance use treatment. This environment promotes participation in individual counseling, parenting, career planning, financial planning, sober activities and support, and new stability for their families.
Our services focus on both the individual and the family. We offer the support needed to get through the difficult process of drug and alcohol treatment and to begin making the necessary changes to achieve successful sobriety and meet healthy life goals.
